Edmonton Oilers Auction 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/16/2005
May 31st, 1987, Game 7… the Oilers finish off the visiting Philadelphia to capture their third Stanley Cup Championship and Andy Van Hellemond has the best seat in the house! For three decades Andy Van Hellemond patrolled the ice for the National Hockey League as one of the premier referees in hockey. In 1999, Andy shared a special night with Wayne Gretzky as they were inducted together into the Hockey Hall of Fame. This is Van Hellemond's game worn referee uniform from the final game of the 1987 Stanley Cup Series. An embroidered NHL shield sits high on the left breast with Andy's full surname stitched onto the back. The solid orange sleeve bands are there to let the players know "who was in charge". A hard to find uniform style from a true HOF'er. From the personal collection of Rick "The Stick" Elaschuk with his signed letter of provenance.
