Edmonton Oilers Auction 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/16/2005
Corks popped and the champagne flowed in the locker room following the Edmonton Oilers fourth Stanley Cup win in 1988. Wayne and the boys downed the Boston Bruins by a score of 6-3 in Game Five on May 26th in front of a hometown crowd at the Coliseum. The rest of the evening was spent in well-deserved celebration. A wearable witness to the jubilation is this champagne-stained official 1988 Stanley Cup Champions baseball cap worn by Wayne Gretzky as his teammates sprayed the room with fine bubbly. The mesh laundry bag has "99" marked on the identification label and holds the set of grey socks, dark blue shorts and light blue long-sleeve Stanfields undershirt worn by Wayne beneath his gear and uniform in the Championship game on May 26th (Gretzky's last game as an Oiler!). A scarce collection of Wayne's under- equipment wear from a most memorable moment. From the personal collection of Rick "The Stick" Elaschuk with his signed letter of provenance.
