Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Originating from the personal collection of legendary superstar Bob Gainey and featuring a trio of superstars that all represented their country at international tournaments, this lot contains a group of four sticks, with two “career achievement” sticks from Steve Yzerman and Mark Messier, lumber used by Russian star Martin Rucinsky during his time with the Montreal Canadiens in the late-1990s/early-2000s, and a team-signed stick, most likely from Gainey’s time in France in 1989-90 as player-coach of the Épinal Écureuils. The Yzerman and Messier sticks are both Louisville models with each respective player’s name over the upper shaft (these are not game-issued sticks), with a wonderfully executed drawing of each player over the blade. The Messier stick has been signed in black marker, with just light handling/age wear to each. The Rucinsky stick is a Sher-Wood PMPX 9950 model with “Rucinsky” stamped to the upper shaft (“CGY” is handwritten), with the original black tape over the blade and handle. The stick shows nice use with puckering to the blade tape and some damage over the top of the heel section. The final stick is a Russian “Leader” model, with approx 24 signing one side of the blade and shaft in black marker, with just light wear to the signatures and stick. Bob Gainey’s signed LOA will accompany.
