Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The second piece of desirable "Great One" lumber offered in this auction that was given to Hall of Fame superstar Bob Gainey by the legendary Wayne Gretzky, this signed stick was used by the icon during his time in Tinseltown in 1991-92 while with the Los Angeles Kings. An Easton Aluminum model, “Gretzky” factory graphics are present over the upper shaft, with this repeated (somewhat faint) over the stem of the inserted wooden stick blade. Wayne’s trademark “Gripper” has been employed over the knob, with what appears to be “92” handwritten on the knob with something else that is now illegible. The blade tape has been removed to facilitate the large and attractive black marker signature which is preceded by “To Steve Happy Birthday”, with the date of “Jan 26 1992” added. Light use is exhibited on the stick, with some wear to the blade and a few marks around the heel section. Originating from Bob Gainey’s personal collection, we should note that the dedication from Gretzky was likely done for his son. A signed LOA from Gainey will accompany.
