Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Well remembered as the first netminder to regularly don facial protection, Jacques Plante was instrumental in establishing head gear for goaltenders, perfecting models that would be used for years to come. This caramel colored “pretzel” mask, manufactured by Plante's Fibrosport company in Magog Quebec, was the first model made by the manufacturer. Sporting a rich dark gold colour with possibly the original strapping, a serial number is visible across the reverse of the nose bridge, with a large section beneath the left eye socket broken away, with a few additional areas of material loss. There is no interior padding, with numerous surface scratches present along with cracks, with small holes drilled over each upper side, with tape added over the top strap opening. There is also some minor soiling to the strapping.
