Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Arguably the greatest hitter to ever step up to the plate, we offer a neat group of Ted Williams’ items, highlighted by both glasses and bottles from the Splinter’s time promoting the Moxie Corporation’s Ted’s Root Beer. First introduced late in 1957, production of Ted’s Root Beer lasted approx a decade before being phased out in 1967. Included, we have a trio of clear-glass 7 oz bottles, each with Ted’s image, along with a matching 7 oz bottle with green glass. This is followed by a trio of small Ted’s Root Beer glasses (4 ¼” in height), each again with the slugger’s image. Next, we have a copy of the Aug 1, 1955 issue of Sports Illustrated with Williams cover, a trio of approx 8” x 11” magazine covers (Time-April 1950, Sport-undated – 1950s and Sports Illustrated-March 1969), additional covers for the Sept 1, 1941 issue of Life (10” x 14”) and a 1947 issue of The Saturday Evening Post (inside back cover ad for Chesterfield cigarettes with Stan Musial – 10” x 13 ½”). Five 8 ½” x 11” pictures taken from magazines are also included, with the majority of the covers in the lot showing moderate handling wear, with small edge tears to the Sport and SI covers, with a bit of creasing and edge wear to the 1941 Life cover. The glasses/bottles all exhibit light wear with no chipping, with some minor dirt staining within the bottom of the green bottle.
