Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Delve deep into hockey’s lush history with this attractive lot of vintage photos which span from the 1920s to the end of the Original Six era. Highlighted by Rice Studios shots of New York Rangers Hall-of-Famers Bill Cook and Frank Boucher and Montreal Maroons star Baldy Northcott, this 23-photo lot continues with team photos of the New York Rangers (seven spanning 1948-49 to 1959-60), Toronto Maple Leafs (two featuring their Stanley Cup championship squads from 1947-48 and 1966-67), Detroit Red Wings (two, 1961-62 in black-and-white and one in colour for the 1963-64 team), and Boston Bruins (two – early-1960s and early-1970s). In addition to the NHL team photos there are several minor league photos included in this exciting lot, including long-forgotten squads like the 1925-26 Allan Cup-winning Port Arthur Bearcats featuring Lorne Chabot before he joined the New York Rangers the following year and the 1930-31 Minneapolis Millers, whose photo shows player names written, but does not feature authentic autographs. Also look for a signed picture of former original Boston Bruins member and Millers player George Redding (d. 1974), who is one of the few players in league history to step into the crease when his goaltender was penalized. Rounding out the lot are an undated Chicoutimi Sagueneens photo and a late-1960s team shot for the AHL’s Quebec Aces. The majority of the photos remain in pleasing condition with light to moderate wear including the odd crease, corner ding or pinhole, with each slightly "rolled".
