The longest serving captain in the history of the Chicago Black Hawks, Jonathan Toews has proudly worn the “C” for a dozen seasons while leading the Windy City club to a trio of Stanley Cup championships during his tenure. Originating from his very first season as captain, one that witnessed the Winnipegger score 69 points in 82 regular-season contests along with an additional 13 playoff points, we have a Chicago Black Hawks photo-matched captain’s jersey worn during the 2008-09 NHL season. A CCM label with “58” sizing and handwritten “2” sits affixed to the collar, with NHL and Reebok crests on the front and back necklines respectively. Styled with the classic and gorgeous partially chain-stitched Indian head team crest, “19” appears over the sleeves and verso in black-over-red tackle twill, with matching tomahawk crests over each shoulder. Photo-matched to six different games from Feb. 5, 2009, to April 7, 2009, this Jonathan Toews jersey hailing from his very first season as Black Hawks’ team captain should receive spirited bidding.
Showing heavy and prolonged game use, there are random dark marks over the front, reverse and sleeves, with a bit of red paint transfer along with board burns over each lower sleeve. A number of team repairs are also visible, with examples over the left (3) and right (1) sleeves along with the left shoulder (9, with some light blue discolouration). Getty Images #84722971 and #84666425 (Feb 5, 2009 vs Calgary) have both been matched to the three team repairs visible to the right of the tomahawk crest on the left shoulder and their specific placement, as well as to the bluish colour visible, while Getty Image #85017213 (Feb 7, 2009 vs Vancouver) has been matched to the shiny burn mark visible over the top right section of the tomahawk crest on the left shoulder, to the team repairs directly to the right of the crest, and to a small black thread that arches along the top section of the left tomahawk. Next, Getty Image #84944779 (Feb 11, 2009 vs Atlanta) has been matched to the burn visible over the tomahawk crest on the left shoulder, to the stray red thread along the top left section of the “9” of “19” over the left sleeve, to the stray red thread along the top left section of the captain’s “C” and to particularities of the threading on the team crest, specifically the small space in the chain-stitching within the bottom of the orange feather, and to threading along the top right of said feather. Getty Image #85143624 (Feb 24, 2009 vs Nashville) has been matched to particularities in the team crest including the stray threading along the top right of the orange feather, the spacing between the chain-stitched gold threading along the top within the hair, to the stray black thread visible over the forehead section, to the stray black thread near the top right of the team crest and to the three stitching holes visible beneath the eye on the team crest and their specific placement. This is followed by Getty Image #85538530 (March 17, 2009 vs New Jersey), matched to the long mark directly beneath the captain’s “C”, to the stray red thread along the top left section of the captain’s “C”, to the stray red thread along the top left section of the “9” of “19” over the left sleeve, and to a few washed out marks directly to the right of the captain’s “C”, while Getty Image #85493667, also from the March 17 contest vs the Devils, has been matched to the small black mark visible between the bottom red and black striping bands on the left sleeve and to its specific placement near the elbow’s reinforcement threading. The image is also matched to the two dark marks to the bottom left of the reverse “1”, and specifically to their shapes and placements. Rounding out the photo-matches, Getty Image #85863967 (March 31, 2009 vs Montreal) has been matched to the long mark directly beneath the captain’s “C”, to the stray red thread along the top left section of the “9” of “19” over the left sleeve and to the second red thread extending from the middle center, to the burns over the tomahawk crest on the left shoulder and the team repair placed adjacently, and to the marks visible directly to the right of the captain’s “C”. The final Getty Image #85901010 (April 7, 2009 vs Nashville) has been matched to the black mark in the lower white stripe on the left elbow, the small black mark at the left of the team crest on the left shoulder and the black mark in the finer mesh material on the right breast.
