The one that started it all for Sports Illustrated, along with the two subsequent issues are offered here and offer hours of reading The one that started it all for Sports Illustrated, along with the two subsequent issues are offered here and offer hours of reading entertainment. The August 16, 1954 "First Issue" also has spellbinding images of 1954 Topps baseball cards, both front and back, making for an awesome three-page foldout spread. Williams, Mays, Snider and Jackie Robinson highlight the 27 "cards" on paper stock, with only a small crease in the top of the Duke Snider example to note. VG 144-page magazine has some light wear along the (fully intact) spine, with a light almost-top-to-bottom wrinkle barely noticeable when viewing straight on. Joining it is a VG second issue, (small tears around the staples on the back cover), with the all-Yankees baseball card-like insert/spread starring Yogi, Whitey and the Mick and in pleasing condition; one has to examine closely to spot a few small light bends. Completing the trio is issue #3, exhibiting light handling but also VG with minor paper loss down where an attempt to remove the mailing label was made. Interesting articles include one on night baseball and one previewing the first Canadian football game to be televised (on NBC) to fans in the United States. Fantastic reading and splendid eye candy await the new owner here.
