Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
A day that lives in infamy still for many Edmonton Oilers fans and Canadians at large, “The Trade” that sent legendary superstar Wayne Gretzky south of the border to the Los Angeles Kings occurred in the summer of 1988, shortly after The Great One led the Oilers to their fourth Stanley Cup championship. We have a signed limited-edition Kings jersey celebrating that historic NHL moment. A CCM Vintage model with labeling along the collar including “54” sizing, the jersey has been styled with the Kings team crest in use upon Gretzky’s arrival until the conclusion of the 1997-98 season, with “99” over the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill. Wayne’s black marker autograph graces the first reverse “9”, and displays beautifully, with the date of the infamous trade, “8/9/1988”, added beneath the signature. The limited-edition number of “37/99” has been embroidered between the numbers, while a hologram from WGA has been affixed adjacently, with a COA to accompany.
