Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

Named the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League Goaltender of the Year for 1967, Ken Brown would see action in a single NHL contest with Chicago in 1970-71, and would later serve as a member of the first year WHA Alberta Oilers, in 1972-73. A pair of seasons would be spent in Edmonton (between 29 games in the SHL), with a total of 52 games played in an Oilers jersey. This mask worn by Brown during the era was produced by noted Edmonton maker Gerry Schultz, with a number of pros and amateurs fitted with the skilled maker’s masks throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including a rookie Grant Fuhr. Constructed of thick and heavy fiberglass with Gerry’s trademark "O" mouth hole, what appears to be the original strapping and padding is intact, with “Ken Brown” visible over the interior along with “G.A. Schultz”, with the maker’s address added beneath. Currently sporting a rich cream colour, the mask exhibits wear over the surface and to the interior padding, with no damage or cracks visible whatsoever. Brown has added a beautiful black marker signature just above the right eye socket. These high quality vintage fiberglass masks are all but drying up in the hobby, especially examples produced by prominent makers for noteworthy goaltenders.
