One of the most talented of the formidable Soviet squad that dominated international play throughout the 1980s, Vladimir Krutov won seven gold medals between the Olympic Games and World Championships in the decade. The Moscow native was also part of the deadly KLM line, along with Igor Larionov and Sergei Makarov. We have a Russian National Team CCCP jersey from the early-to-mid-1980s worn by Krutov. A KOHO “XXL” label remains affixed to the collar, with the vintage garment measuring-out to roughly a size 50. Styled with “CCCP” placed across the chest in individual red tackle twill letters, “9” also appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material, along with “Krutov” over the upper reverse. Knit sleeve and waist striping bands have also been utilized on the thin mesh sweater.
We should note that photographic research shows Russian players wearing this type of jersey with this similar type of fonts of numbers and letters in 1983 and 1984, including the 1983 World Championships, 1984 Canada Cup and 1984 Olympics. A few dark marks are visible over the lower front including a large washed-out stick mark just above the front band, with additional marks and a small hole over the left sleeve. There is also a tiny bit of red paint transfer over the right elbow. Krutov scored 15 points including 8 goals at the 1983 World Championships, with the Russians winning gold. Another 8 points would be secured at the 1984 Canada Cup by the superstar. Considered one of the best wingers of the 1980s, “The Tank” was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame, in 2010.
