Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
One of the earliest American manufacturers of hockey goods, Wright & Ditson first opened their Boston doors in 1871 when legendary baseball pioneer and HOFer George Wright teamed up with business partner Henry Ditson. Two decades of producing the highest quality sporting goods would follow, with the business eventually sold to Spalding, with the name retained and continually used. We have a desirable W&D one-piece paper label Championship model hockey stick from the 1910s. A full size adult model with pinned blade, the remnants of the paper label remain over the upper shaft with “Championship” and “Special Model” decipherable, with a W&D logo branded into the heel section. A previous owner has added what appears to be his name and address in thick black ink over one side of the shaft, with the blade slightly warped/curved for a right hand shot.
Exhibiting lengthy and thorough use with the aforementioned paper label mostly gone, the stick remains solid with no chips, cracks or breaks.
