Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Commemorating the New York Islanders' third of four consecutive Stanley Cup championships is this salesman's sample 10-karat gold ring featuring the name of sniper extraordinaire Mike Bossy! The Boss's surname and his number "22" are above and below the Isles (white gold) logo on one shank, while the other features the team's name above three raised images of Lord Stanley's precious trophy, (the '82 Cup is in white gold), with "Prince of Wales Champions" below. The tableau is similar to the rings that team members received, with the exception of cubic zirconia subbing for real diamonds, and encircled in a sloping fashion by "Stanley Cup Champions", along with the year. The size 11 1/2 ring, weighing about 30 grams, is stamped "LGB 10K" on the interior, along with the sample serial number of "08674167-12".
Light surface scratches/scuffing and tiny dings/dents are visible, with the heaviest wear along edges. The Islanders achieved immortality as a dynasty in 1982 when they became the first American team to win three Cups in a row. New York survived a first-round scare against Pittsburgh, winning the ultimate game in overtime and then got past the arch rival Rangers in a tough six-game series. Consecutive sweeps of Quebec and Vancouver put Bossy and company in select company as they joined Montreal and Toronto in the exclusive three-straight Cups club. After a career high 147 regular season points which included 64 goals, Bossy earned playoff MVP honours and the Conn Smythe Trophy with his 17-goal, 27-point performance in 19 games.
