Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Near the top or at the top of most rookie card collectors' want lists is the one picturing icon Bobby Orr, with Boston Bruins' hockey men first spotting the Parry Sound, Ontario whiz kid when he was just 12 years of age! A few years later Bobby was indeed in a Bruins uniform and cards like this were being pulled from 5-cent packs, with Bobby still sporting a brush-cut hairdo and already wowing fans in Boston and around the NHL. This example of card #35 has visible scuffing in the left border but no real unsightly flaws in the image of the young defenceman. A couple of rather subtle, approximately one-inch bends would be considered (back) creases by many. A horizontal one is through Orr's eyebrow region but only can be detected when the card is held at an angle and not noticeable when looking straight at the card, while a similar but diagonal affair rises up from the "Boston" area of the bottom edge to reach Bobby's lower lip. No better than VG in our book, but much more attractive than a "standard" VG card, if you follow. Light corner/edge wear and a problem-free back are also to mention. A coveted Orr RC awaits the high bidder.
