Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Group 2 Bee Hives dominate this stash and include duplication, with condition quite pleasing and better than what we often see, save for the 16 that curiously have something we’ve never seen; 1960-61 Shirriff coin inserts pasted in an upper corner(!). Team breakdown is as follows, with notables in brackets and more valuable variations joined by an asterisk: Boston 29 (Kurtenbach, Perreault*), Chicago 16 (Brimsek, MacNeil*, Turner*), Detroit 23 (Faulkner, Jeffrey, Howe), Montreal 37 (Beliveau (3), Berenson, Plante, Richard), New York 21, Toronto 47 (Kelly*). Also a first sighting for us are four '61-62 Shirriff team shields which hold '60-61 coins, glued firmly into place, with glue stains/residue making for a majority of unsightly examples. Present are sets of Bruins, Black Hawks, Canadiens and Rangers. A small grab bag of miscellaneous premium photos/items and Shirriff coins are thrown-in, with further details on our website.
Other Bee Hive items include three checklists (List as of November 1st, 1963), with however two torn in half (one is heavily marked in pencil) and the other with three tears, a multi-creased Bee Hive collar, a 1962 letter on St. Lawrence Starch letterhead telling a fan that he/she did not send in proper proofs of purchase to obtain pictures, seven envelopes used to mail photos and a few uninspiring low grade photos; four Group 1 examples and 13 “woodgrains”, the latter affected by three punch holes down the left side. Low grade Crown Brand photos (4) and Quaker Oats photos (5 Leafs) are also present, as are a dozen miscellaneous early-'60 Shirriff coins, with goalies Hall and Sawchuk from '61-62 and a metal Plante All-Star from '62-63 most notable and EX. Completing are over 50 early-'80s Pepsi-Cola caps, many of them dented/bent.
