Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

The rookie cards of modern day hockey legends highlight this run of O-Pee-Chee sets, with condition typically improving along the way and the coveted RC of Wayne Gretzky, the star of superstars, what most are curious to hear about first. Famous card #18 from 1979-80 is off-centered and G, or G+ at best, affected by two rather small peripheral creases, along with corner and edge wear. The accompanying '79-80s average VG, with marked team checklists and unmarked (2/3) checklists (VG+). The '77-78 and '78-79 ensembles similarly exhibit obvious handling and are in the VG neighborhood, with a multi-creased Mike Bossy RC (F). Better are the early-'80s entries, with '80-81 mostly VG-EX to EX, with however keys Gretzky (VG+), Messier RC (VG) and Bourque (VG) lower and Gartner RC EX+. Anchoring a mostly VG+ to EX '81-82 set (actually missing checklist #381), are Coffey (EX-MT) and Kurri (VG) rookies, with checklists and team checklists, like with all '80s representatives, unmarked. It’s up to an EX average for '82-83, with Fuhr and Francis RCs at EX+, while EX to NM '83-84 cards average EX+ and include EX-MT rookies of Lindbergh and Scott Stevens. Mostly EX to EX-MT are the '84-85 examples, with RCs of Yzerman (EX-MT+), Gilmour (NM), Chelios (EX-MT) and Neely (VG+) most notable. The Mario Lemieux RC is EX-MT and joined by EX to NM '85-86 cards, with an Al MacInnis rookie at EX. Another notch nicer are the final three contributors, with the key Patrick Roy RC at NM-MT and accompanied by mostly NM-or-better '86-87 counterparts, while NM to Mint and a NM-MT averages is report with the '87-88 group which features a NM+ Luc Robitaille rookie. Similar are '88-89 cards, with a Brett Hull RC NM-MT+ and a Brendan Shanahan rookie off-centered but otherwise similarly sharp. Time to sharpen your pencil and decide on auction night if these are destined for you.
