Endless reading for the lucky bidder that snags this impressive vintage sport magazine collection, we have a large group of sports magazines, along with hard cover hockey books, race programs and a few miscellaneous items. Included, we have over 400 vintage mags from the 1950s through 1970s, with the majority hailing from the 1950s/60s, 3 bound volumes - Les Sports 1953, 1954 and Sport Revue 1959, 37 hockey books (mostly hardcovers), 28 horse race programs (mostly from Quebec and in French – highlighted by a 1953 example from Richelieu Park), 59 modern mags and publications and a mix of around a dozen football/golf books. Highlighted by Sports Illustrated covers featuring Mickey Mantle (June 1956, Oct 1956, July 1962), there’s also a “Home Run Year Target 60” cover with the Mick from August of 1961. A gorgeous Ted Williams cover (August 1955) is next, with all of the stars of the days featured on covers (mostly hockey and baseball) within the collection, including Hull, Howe, Plante, Orr, Beliveau, Mantle, Ford, Berra, Seaver, Ruth, Snider, Mathews, Mays, Cousy, Russell, Marciano and many others! Other highlights include a 1945 Halifax Senior League hockey yearbook, 1950-51 Hockey Fotos, The Hockey News 1981 Yearbook with Gretzky cover, early Gretzky pictorial mag in beautiful condition and more. The magazine titles include Sports Illustrated, Le Sport, Hockey Pictorial, Sportsworld, Sport Revue and others, with the modern publications to include examples on collecting, including 8 copies of the Hockey Collector’s Forum from 1989/90 and a run of Hockey Card Checklist and Price Guides from the 1980s, with edition 6 to edition 10. Condition ranges as one would expect, with the earlier publications exhibiting heavier wear, with some of the earlier examples also having torn/detached covers along with toning, creasing and miscellaneous wear.
