Celebrating a century of existence, the Toronto Maple Leafs hold a special place in the hearts of many Canadians, with their iconic blue and white uniforms with affixed maple leaf arguably the most desirable sweaters in the hobby. We have a wonderful example offered, with a circa early-1960s wool. Obtained from a collector in Saskatchewan, the sweater was likely recycled to a team on the Canadian prairies, with clear evidence of a former "R" team logo over the chest, with the blue threading and small holes within the interior also showing evidence of a previous number over the reverse. A correct period Leafs team crest matching in both style and construction has been restored, with the two-eyelet configuration on tie-neck construction utilized on our example first worn by Toronto in 1960-61. Ideal for those seeking a vintage Maple Leafs wool, without having to drop a bundle.
Void of any labeling and measuring-out to roughly a modern size 42, a detailed thick felt Maple Leafs team crest with appliqued white letters is featured, with “7” over verso in single blue twill. Blue shoulder bands with matching collar have been utilized, with dual striping bands over both the sleeves and waist. Witnessing prolonged use, the vintage wool exhibits heavy wear including a few well-sized holes over the lower front, reverse and near the team crest, with a large example over the left elbow. There are also numerous team repairs throughout, with an example in black thread over the left breast.
