Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
NHL contracts are highly sought after and collected as they usually offer iron-clad signatures, along with pertinent information that allows one to peruse interesting historical facts regarding a player’s salary, status and terms of employment. We have a pair of vintage Toronto Maple Leafs contracts, with examples for Charles Lumsden and Hugh Mair. The Lumsden contract calls for the Winnipegger to earn $7000.00 per season for both 1952-53 and 1953-54 (over $63,000.00 in 2017 dollars), with a $2000.00 signing bonus (over $18,000.00 in 2017 dollars) included. Deceased HOFers Clarence Campbell, Hap Day and King Clancy have all signed in varying inks, with no issues for the document or signatures. Lumsden would only appear for the AHL’s Pittsburgh Hornets during the seasons contracted. He also played CFL football for his hometown Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1952-55. The Mair contract calls for the Newmarket native to earn $3900.00 for the 1946-47 NHL season (over $35,000.00 in 2017 dollars), with a $200.00 bonus included if “recommended by the coach”. Deceased HOFers Clarence Campbell and Hap Day have signed, with no issues for the document or signatures.
