Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

The rookie card of Wayne Gretzky, the phenomenal whiz kid from Brantford, Ontario, has always led O-Pee-Chee’s challenging 1979-80 issue, with this assembly mighty attractive to the beholder, with the majority of the cards either mirroring or bettering Wayne’s famous #18 example. It rests in a KSA holder labelled NM 7, with light lower corner touches appearing to have denied it an even higher mark. The raw rest easily average NM, with dozens upon dozens of NM+ or better examples spotted, with intermittent white/corner touches sending some to a notch or two lower at EX-MT or EX-MT+. Centering varies but overall is good, as someone obviously paid attention to it, while the three checklists are pleasing, well-centered, unmarked NM-or-better representatives, similar to the Oilers team checklist. Half a dozen team checklists are marked, including 252-Canadiens, with a corner crease in the (unmarked) Nordiques team card (VG+). In short, the high bidder should have a blast sifting through these classic collectibles.
