Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Claiming their 25th pennant in franchise history, the New York Yankees – led by The Old Perfesser – would conclude the 1960 MLB campaign 97-57, eight games ahead of Baltimore. Meeting the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Fall Classic, seven hard fought games would entertain stadium goers, with Bill Mazeroski’s epic Series-clinching home run dashing any hopes for the Bombers. We have an absolutely stunning 1960 New York Yankees American League Championship 14K gold salesman's sample ring for your consideration. Size 10 ½” with an approx. weight of 35 grams, a Yankess logo sits centered with patriotic red, white and blue stone-encrusted top hat, encompassed by a single stone of each colour bordered by a double oval, with “American League” above in raised letters, and “Champions” below. Each shank feature’s a ball-and-sunbeam motif, with “1960” above in embossed numerals. "Balfour 14K" is stamped over the inner band, with an engraved salesman's sample number of "SA 69698-Bank".
Wear is visible over both the inner and outer band, with some scratches and nicks, mostly along edges. Dust/dirt is also present within grooves, with some minor damage to both the left side of the top hat as well as the “Y” of “Yankees”. A ring box from Balfour will accompany.
