Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Three vintage sticks are available in this interesting lot, with a pair of rarely seen pre-war team-signed examples, along with a desirable one-piece stick. Included, we have game-used sticks signed by the 1942-43 Philadelphia Falcons of the EHL and the 1939-40 Verdun Bulldogs of the QSHL, along with a Clark’s model stick. The Falcons stick appears to be a “Jimmy McNiece SPECIAL” model with faded stamp, with “Doug Maher” and “14” handwritten in pencil over the upper shaft. With nice use exhibited on the lumber including a cracked blade with the tape over the blade and knob intact, approx. 17 signatures are present along one side of the shaft including Maher, Leo Gasparini, Nelson "Freckle" Little, Mike Shabaga, Vern "Wimpy" Jones, Jack O'Hara, Bill Whittet, Marty Madore, Tom Brennan and others. The Bulldogs stick has no visible maker’s stamp, with the tape over the blade intact while the tape over the knob is now gone. The blade is also broken with a few loose tape strands, with a large crack on the lower shaft. “To the best fan I ever had” has been handwritten by Jean-Louis Bourcier with the stick attributed to him, with approx. 16 faint signatures including Bourcier, Ernie Laforce, Conrad Bourcier, Bernard Pennee, Liquori Hudon and others. The Clark’s one-piece stick most likely hails from the mid-1930s, with tape intact over the blade and knob, with a loose strand over the blade. “99” has been handwritten over the upper shaft along with “Wheeler”, with “10” handwritten a number of times on three sides of the upper shaft. With a partially intact striping accent and a few minor cracks to the blade, the stick remains in very good condition.
