Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Representing the historic and legendary career of one of Montreal’s most tragic figures in Howie Morenz, we have a trophy that was presented to the Morenz family upon the induction of the iconic superstar within the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame (Panthéon des sports du Québec) in 1992. We also have a large diecut Morenz display that originates from the Hockey Hall of Fame. The stylishly-sculpted and heavy (9.5 lbs) bronze flame trophy stands just under 13" tall and represents the logo of the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame, with “Pantheon des Sports” and “29 Mai 1992” engraved, while the sepia-toned diecut display features a near-life size on-ice representation (53” x 54” at it’s widest points), complete with extended hockey stick (no blade).
The Morenz award features a few sections of felt along the underside, with just moderate wear to the trophy itself taking place, including edge wear to the base along with a few green oxidation marks near the engraving. The diecut display is fairly thick and remains in excellent condition with a few creases present, with thin foam added to the reverse legs to facilitate display. There is also a HOF inventory number handwritten near the top of the reverse.
