A CFL card bonanza here is led chronologically by a trio of early-1970s sets, with the ’70 assembly dominated by VG+ and VG-EX cards and also including VG and EX examples. Things improve markedly with the condition-sensitive ‘71s; EX-MT and NM cards show up the most often, although a light corner ding helps render Joe Theisman’s rookie EX+, with RCs of Cutler (EX-MT), Gabriel (NM) and Dalla Riva (NM) also present. The ‘72s (EX+ average) drop off, with Theisman just VG, while each of the three sets’ checklist is marked. Meanwhile, Warren Moon’s desirable 1983 Jogo rookie card is graded NM+ 7.5 by KSA, with other ‘83s and an ’84 set (Series 1 & 2, 160 cards total) mirroring it. Just 500 of the ’83 sets were reportedly produced for sale to the public. Another interesting Jogo issue is an ’83 Hall of Fame 50-card affair, while miscellaneous team sets from the ‘80s total seven and include Moon in an Eskimos “Red Rooster” set, with more details on our website.
A 40-card set similar to the Eskimos Red Rooster job is one featuring Calgary Stampeder players, while a Winnipeg Blue Bombers Police set stars QB Dieter Brock. Three other mid-1980s sets or near sets by “Mohawk” picture B.C. Lions, with an ’83 Hamilton Tiger-Cats set, sponsored by the team, the local Fire Department and “The Spectator”, representing the east. Splendid collection will offer the new owner looks at dozens of Canadian Football League stars and rekindle numerous swell memories of the good old Canadian gridiron game - it was treat for this writer to go through them and describe them for you!
