Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Known throughout the annals of hockey lore as “The Phantom”, Joe Malone’s career overlapped between the NHA and NHL, with a pair of consecutive Stanley Cups won while leading the Quebec Bulldogs in 1912 and 1913, along with a third cup garnered while representing the mighty Montreal Canadiens in 1924. We have a unique award that was presented to the HOFer, most likely while in a capacity as a worker at an undisclosed business long after his playing career. At 16 ½” in height and featuring a wooden base with mounted plaque, a telephone receiver along with crossed brass hockey sticks sit mounted, with a fully electrical lamp. The currently out-of-place plaque states “To Joe Malone – From Friends in the Tool Room – You Have Reached Another Goal”. Skate-shaped feet have also been utilized at the front of the base, with a mounted brass holder over the receiver that appears to be incomplete and missing an unknown component, possibly a photo of some sort. Moderate to heavy wear is present, especially along the base, with the plug working and the light operational.
