This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
The horse of the year in 1973 and fourth thoroughbred winner of the American Triple Crown, War Admiral won 21 of 26 starts, and is well remembered as a rival to Seabiscuit. We have a highly desirable and not-often-seen Churchill Downs “Derby Day” race stub dated May 8th 1937, with a purchase price of $16.65. At roughly 2 ¾” squared, the thick-cardstock stub exhibits bold colours, with just a minor crease along the bottom right corner. As an added bonus, included we also have a circa 1898 Victorian Men's Derby Link Cuff Holder. Made by John C. Plicieer and patented on Nov. 29, 1898, it features a lucky horseshoe design. Cuff holders were used on detachable cuffs, a shirt would be worn several times with the collars and cuffs replaced daily. With just light wear, the cuff holder remains in wonderful condition.
