Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Greg Malone’s awesome 1979-80 and 1980-81 Pittsburgh Penguins game-worn jersey is photo-matched to the exact placement of the heat-screened No. 12 on the left shoulder and to the positioning of those yellow and white vinyl numbers with respect to the mesh holes in the fabric. Stall & Dean and washing instruction tagging sits in the back of the neck along with size 52 and year “0” flag tags. The “0” tagged jerseys were introduced on January 30, 1980 as the Penguins adopted the black and gold color scheme to match those of the Pirates and the Steelers in the wake of their respective World Series and Super Bowl titles. Game wear includes team repairs on the back of both sleeves.
These jerseys were recycled into the 1980-81 season before the Penguins switched to Sandow in January 1981. Double-garter fight strap is looped and tied on one side of the anchor patch inside the back of the jersey. More game wear includes board burns on the sleeves and right hip, red paint transfer on the right sleeve and right front tail, and blue paint transfer on the left sleeve.
