Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
A hit with young collectors in the early-1970s at Mac’s Milk (changed to just "Mac’s" in 1975) convenience stores across Canada, we have a collection of Mac’s stickers, including a near-complete unopened set (27/30) along with an opened near-set (25/30). At 3” in diameter, each circular full-colour sticker features a caricature of a contemporary NHL star, with his name listed beneath. Originally issued in carbon-lined 4” x 4” paper “envelopes” that resemble tea bags - with a complete set comprised of 30, the textured novelties include a number of HOFers within its assemblage. Highlights include Orr, Plante, Ratelle, Lemaire, Bucyk, Cournoyer, Savard, Clarke, Ullman and others.
The majority of the opened stickers remain in excellent condition with light wear, with the unopened examples presumably in high-grade, with most of the packaging exhibiting very minor flaws including some toning. Missing from the opened set are Cournoyer, Clarke, Bucyk, Savard and Darryl Sittler, while the near-complete unopened set needs just Talon, Bergman and Sittler for completion.
