Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Acquired by joining the ROPECO boys’ club, retailers Rogers Peet issued a 48 card set in 1929-30 that featured the sports personalities of the day, with just four of the cards featuring hockey players from either the New York Rangers or Americans. Each new ROPECO member received an envelope containing 4 cards, along with a monthly membership booklet, a lapel pin and an album to house the cards. We have one of the hockey subjects present from the difficult-to-complete set, with an example of card #10 Lionel Conacher, and it’s been encapsulated and graded 60 EX 5 by SGC. Accompanying the card, we also have one of the original glassine envelopes (numbered 10), along with a Rogers Peet lapel pin.
The lapel pin features an intact backing, with just some patina across the face in spots within the shield design. The glassine envelope shows just light wear, and it remains complete with no loss. Lastly, the graded Conacher card displays beautifully and is slightly off-center, with just minor surface wear to the SGC holder.
