Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

The "Leading Players in the Canadian National Game" is how the depicted subjects are described on the backs of these C59 lacrosse cards, with some of them also starring back in the day on ice surfaces during the winter. Condition is rather appealing, with approximately two-thirds of the stash in the VG-or-better neighborhood, (VG, VG+, VG-EX), with either no creases or just a light/small crease. We see the two Newsy Lalonde cards as G+ examples, with #97 featuring a light vertical almost-top-to-bottom crease and touches of soiling, with #100 exhibiting slightly rounded corners and a lightly soiled reverse and likely making it to VG in the eyes of some. Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Paddy Moran appears in a National de Quebec uniform, with card #75 off-centered but crease-free and VG+, with lacrosse and hockey teammate Joe Malone's #84 card (G) featuring a diamond cut, a rough left edge and light creasing in the lower portion. Other more notable hockey men include 16-Tommy Gorman (G+), 68-Mickey Ions (crease-free but miscut) and 90-Joe Cattarinich (G). The backs of the cards are for the most part problem-free, with however a few exceptions to mention; #s 57 and 65 have writing on the back, with paper loss on the fronts of 11 and 49. Four cards from the C60 set (28, 62, 83 and 85-Jeff Malone) are fillers for the missing numbers, bringing the total to an even 100. Fascinating pieces of Canadiana!
