The NHL put one in the top corner with the 2008 Winter Classic outdoor game on New Year’s Day. The Buffalo Sabres hosted Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first edition of what has been become an annual showcase event for the league with sensation retro-style uniforms. Sabres defenseman Nathan Paetsch’s 2008 Winter Classic game-worn jersey sports the look of Buffalo’s original NHL uniforms. Game wear includes marks and board burns on the sleeves. The 2008 Winter Classic patch is sewn on the right breast of this beauty worn by Paetsch during the second period of the game as per the accompanying LOA.
There are a couple of small reddish-brown spot stains on the right sleeve. MeiGray patch with registry No. E05982 is sewn inside the rear tail and size 56 flag tag sits in the back of the neck.
Buffalo lost the inaugural edition of the Winter Classic when Crosby scored the decisive shootout goal to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 win before a crowd of 71,217 at Ralph Wilson Stadium on January 1, 2008.
