Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Held at the Meribel Ice Palace ski resort roughly 45 km from Albertville France, the 1992 Winter Olympics hockey tournament witnessed the Canadians taking on a Unified Team in the final, with the team made up of former Soviet nations defeating the mighty maple leaf 3-1 in the gold medal game. We have a Sean Burke goal stick team-signed by the members of the Canadian squad, and it most likely saw use in the tournament, as it’s the correct model used by Burke in the Games. A Louisville model, “Burke” is stamped onto the lower shaft along with a date on the underside of “Oct 24 1991”, with the original tape on the blade, paddle, handle and knob. 17 have signed the front-side paddle in black marker including HOFer Eric Lindros, along with Sean Burke, Joe Juneau, Gord Hynes and others.
Additional signatures on this Team Canada goal stick include Todd Brost, Fabian Joseph, Kent Manerville, Brad Schlegel, Jason Woolley and others. We should also note that according to our consignor, this stick was acquired from Fabian Joseph’s cousin (Joseph did play on the team, and he has signed this stick as well). Game-use is heavy, with some cracking and chipping to the paddle, along with heavy wear to the taped section of blade.
