Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Rarely seen or offered, game-worn equipment from legendary Canadiens HOFer Maurice Richard is highly desirable and feverishly sought-after. We have just that presented within this lot, with a rare early-1950s glove worn by the iconic Montreal superstar. With no maker visible, the left-handed leather glove is the correct model as worn by Richard in the early-1950s, with photographic evidence showing that the left glove was void of McNiece labeling during this period. A small handwritten and underlined 9 is visible on the cuff, and it’s executed in the same manner and done in the same area as the 1953 Richard glove we sold previously. We should also note that later gloves worn by Richard had the number 9 stamped on, not handwritten. A museum quality piece, spirited bidding is expected on this important hockey relic.
With intact tie-string, considerable use is apparent including heavy rubbing to the leather in spots. The glove also features a team repair over the thumb gap, with a slit along the top section of the thumb also repaired, with some tearing at the top of the inserted wooden dowels within the inner section.
