Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Part of the father and son team that played important roles in the American’s seemingly impossible defeat of the cold war era Soviet hockey machine, Bill Christian donned the red, white and blue to participate in the memorable slewing of those seemingly unbeatable Russian giants at the 1960 Winter Games. Following in his father’s precedent-setting footsteps, Dave Christian would be an integral component to the well-celebrated Miracle on Ice two decades later. Father Bill would reprise his role in an American sweater at the 1964 Games in Innsbruck, with the US this time unable to repeat as overwhelming underdogs. Presented, we have Bill Christian’s participation medal from the 1964 Winter Olympics. At 2.5” in diameter and composed of bronze from an edition of 5000, the Olympic rings are featured on the obverse along with “Innsbruck” and the date, with an image of the hamlet embossed on verso.
With no issues to note other than a pair of small edge grooves, the medal remains in gorgeous condition. A signed LOA from Bill Christian will accompany.
