Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Their second showing in the Winter Classic since the inaugural contest against Buffalo in 2008, the Pittsburgh Penguins took on arch-rival Washington in the 2011 installment of the popular event, with almost 70,000 fans overflowing Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. This Penguins jersey was worn in the practice prior to the game by defenceman Deryk Engelland. CCM size tagging and a Reebok name band are attached to the collar, with NHL and Reebok crests on the front and back necklines respectively. Featuring the vintage-style Penguins crest in use from 2011 to 2014, the solid white garment is void any numbering, with the 2011 Winter Classic crest over the right breast. A Reebok sizing swatch is also present along the lower front. With no visible wear present other than some very light staining on the reverse along the fight strap, the jersey remains in beautiful condition. The fight strap also has “5” handwritten, with the team patch located directly below, and it identifies this garment as a “2011 Winter Classic Practice Jersey”.
