A captivating image of Hall-of-Famer Marty Walsh graces this desirable Sweet Caporal postcard, part of a 45-card set that was reportedly used by the artists working on the C55 card set released the following season by the Imperial Tobacco Company of Canada. Born in Kingston, Ontario, Walsh made a name for himself with Queen’s University which challenged the Ottawa Silver Seven for the Stanley Cup in 1906. He faced-off against Frank McGee and so impressed that Ottawa later signed him. Walsh led the National Hockey Association in scoring for three seasons and helped the Senators to Stanley Cup triumphs in 1908-09, 1909-10 and 1910-11. In a Cup-clinching game against Port Arthur in 1911, Walsh pour in 10 goals in a 14-4 win, coming four short of McGee’s well-known 14-goal record! Card #11 here displays much better than the Good 2 grade it received from PSA, with no visible creases.
