Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016

Montreal superstar Guy Lafleur earned NHL First Team All Star honors for six straight seasons between 1975 and 1980. This vintage mesh uniform was made by Gerry Cosby to be worn by Lafleur during the 1980 NHL All-Star weekend in Detroit at the Joe Louis Arena. Purchased directly from the Cosby store back in the 1980's, the shirt was on display high up on the wall behind the counter and the purchaser was told by staff that this jersey was made for Guy and team-issued but not for sale. Some hefty haggling ensued, the shirt came down off the wall and left with the western-Canadian collector with whom it remained until just recently. Vintage tagging in the collar is all correct and in the right order, exactly as it is in all the game-worn examples we have handled from the 1980 event. Size 54. No game wear, as is to be expected, and the jersey is in well-preserved condition. Everything is sewn-on in tackle twill including the lettering spelling out Guy's surname on the back, each individually applied to the shirt.
