Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
With the Detroit Falcons falling into receivership in 1931, James Norris was able to purchase the club in 1932, and after renaming the team the Red Wings, the rest as they say… is history. This Detroit jersey was worn by Derek Smith in 1981-82, and it has the 50th Anniversary Norris patch celebrating that history over the right breast. Sandow and manufacturer tagging remains affixed to the collar, with an additional rubberized Sandow SK crest on the bottom hem. Adorned with tackle twill numbers and name-on-nameplate, the Norris patch rests over the right breast as mentioned. Game-use includes a few marks present, along with board burns on both sleeves.
With a garter-style fight strap, the garment also features 3 team repairs, with 1 on the lower front, and 2 near the left seam. We should also note that the vintage mesh jersey exhibits toning throughout, presently exhibiting an off-white colour, but presents and displays beautifully.
