Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Tracing its roots back to the late-19th century when the first US/Canada cross-border game was played, international hockey reached its peak during the mid-part of the century, when the powerful Russians first entered the competition. We have a large collection of international memorabilia, including items rarely if ever seen on this side of the Atlantic. Highlighted by 1974 Canada/Russia programs (2) along with a Game 2 ticket stub, there is also a program for the “Game of the Century” from 1975 (Montreal vs The Red Army), additional programs including an example for the 1978 World Championships and 1959 Canada vs Russia program. There is also 24 vintage oversized team postcards from 1959 to 2000 including a complete set of 6 from 1959, an ice hockey booklet from the 1936 Games in Berlin, a Russian cardboard Bobby Hull ad from 1974 (6 ½” x 9”), pennants, flags, snapshots, booklets, Russian photo sets and much more!
Also included in this interesting international hockey lot, we have approx. 57 Sportcaster cards from the late-1970s including examples for Kharlamov, Hlinka and the 1978 Soviet squad, a Jean Tremblay Group Visa from 1974 along with a ’74 patch and CCCP flag, 1970s Canada and CCCP patches in their original packaging, a “Hockey Stars of the USSR” watch, A Red Rose Canada/Russia transfer (7” x 10”), and a framed Team Canada team photo of the 1974 squad (13” x 15”). The flags/pennants include 36 examples highlighted by a USSR picture flag signed by Boris Mikhailov, while the books include a program from circa-1975 for a Rangers/Red Army exhibition (signed by Tretiak), a Team USA 1984 Canada Cup booklet, a 1984 Canada Cup media guide, a 1987 “Rendez-Vous” media guide, a Summit Series recap book, a 1968-69 Team Canada vs Russia program, an Ottawa ‘67s program vs the Russian National Team from 1969, a 1984 Canada Cup tournament program, an NHL Super Series booklet from 1988-89 and much more! The majority of the items show moderate wear with no obtrusive damage, with the 1975 “Game of the Century” program and 1974 Summit Series examples all complete and showing moderate wear from handling, with a name handwritten on the cover of one of the 1974 programs. The 1974 Team Canada team photo exhibits some warping, with heavy wear to the frame and glass.
