Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Named for the fortifications of Quebec City, the Citadelles played in the QJHL, with the name revised in 1999 for the AHL squad that existed until 2002. We have a collection of Quebec Citadelles picture sets (5), with the one and only Jean Beliveau featured. Included, we have 20 blue-tint pictures from circa 1949-51, 2 identical sets of sepia-tint pictures (20 in each) from circa 1949-51, 20 sepia-tint pictures with player’s name along the base from circa 1949-51, 20 B&W “Vega” pictures (eleven signed) from circa 1951-53 and 18 Ogilvie premium pictures (two signed) from circa 1951-53. Each set/group is highlighted by Jean Beliveau (except the Vega pictures), with other notables to include Camille Henry and Marcel Paille.
The majority are in the 4” x 6” range give or take, with the Ogilvie premiums at approx. 6” x 9 ¼”. Some examples have the player’s name handwritten in pencil over the reverse, with the sepia-tint pictures with names along the base having a “Hockey Herald” ink stamp over the reverse. The majority of the pictures remain in stunning high-grade with just VERY light handling, with the odd example displaying a lower technical grade due to very minor issues. Also included, we have an original Citadelles “Photo Souvenir” mailing envelope (low grade) with wonderful graphics and text, with an image of Jean Beliveau.
