Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
In January of 1907, the Montreal Wanderers and the Thistles Hockey Team of Kenora battled for Stanley Cup supremacy. Aided by future Hall of Famer's Tom Hooper, Tommy Phillips, and Art Ross, the Thistles came away with 4-2 and 8-6 victories for a combined score of 12-8 to win a two-game, total goals series. A "ringer", Ross was a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings and was borrowed by Kenora for just the challenge games. This pair of vintage postcards depicts that winning Kenora squad, with one example featuring the clubs’ regular 7 (black & white), while the second pictures the Thistles after winning the Stanley Cup, with both Joe Hall and Art Ross included.
Both postcards have text over the reverse, with the colour example discussing the Thistles. Each also shows moderate wear with no obtrusive damage, with toning, a few small creases and corner wear. There is also a small stain over the reverse of the black & white postcard.
