Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Another outstanding postcard lot in this auction that harkens back to the earlier days of Canada’s game and feature’s one of hockey’s most fabled, almost mythical clubs, we have a postcard collection of 6, with each a member of the historic Quebec Bulldogs. Stanley Cup champions in both 1912 and 1913, the Bulldogs can trace their roots back to the very earliest days of organized hockey, with the team taken and sold to Hamilton by the NHL in 1920. Iconic superstars Paddy Moran, Joe Malone and Joe Hall are included in this exceedingly rare issue, along with Eddie Oatman, George Prodger and Jack MacDonald. All six postcards feature oval sepia-tone cameos and are identified on the front, with each having ‘Beaudry Photo’ embossed. Each also feature’s a Victor divided postal reverse, with pencil notations over the back of the Hall postcard. These are the only Bulldogs postcards from this issue that we have ever encountered.
The postcards appear to have been affixed to an album along the top edge at one point, as each card has a small area that shows evidence of removal. Each postcard also exhibits heavy toning and has somewhat lost it’s shape, with some very minor warping taking place, along with brown edge staining on the three HOFers.
