Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

Very rare WHA treasure is this big San Diego Mariners banner which hung in the concourse of the San Diego Sports Arena back in the day. The Mariners made the arena their home from 1974-77 when the rebel league’s ever-troubled New York/New Jersey area franchise that went through incarnations as the Raiders, Golden Blades and Knights moved to San Diego. The Mariners’ team logo is displayed in a felt-like material applied to this 47” x 36” canvas banner with a satiny finish on the logo side. Nicely preserved overall with a round stain on the lower left that does not touch the team logo. A very unique piece of WHA history.
