Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

The Soviet Union would capture gold in the 1981 IIHF World Championships, with the host country Sweden grabbing silver and Czechoslovakia bronze. The standings remained the same when the Euro team results were measured as well after going head to head. Offered is a European Championships silver medal presented to members of the Swedish team when the tournament wrapped up. Measuring 2 ¾” in diameter and featuring a hockey-playing image on one side and the IIHL name and colored logo on the reverse, we see only a small scattering of marks on this precious medal, although the original accompanying ribbon is no longer included. These European medals were issued to European participants in the World Championships only until 1991.
