Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
The nation was behind Team Canada in 1972 when the team found themselves behind the 8-ball before their four games against the Soviet National Team in Moscow, and fans from coast to coast sent well-wishes through telegrams, wires, and any which way they could, including the sending of 4” x 6” postcards the Bank of Nova Scotia had printed up with “Go Canada” on the front and a place to add a message of support on the back. We have 50 such French-language “Vas-Y Canada” postcards, unused and unmarked, left over from the famed Summit Series that saw the Canadian team snatch victory from the jaws of defeat thanks to the heroics of several players including, of course, Paul Henderson. These cards have been preserved in wonderful white and like-new condition, with just a slight tough of aging on the edges and minor wear to the corners. Two years later, in 1974, a Team Canada squad assembled from stars of the WHA played a similar eight-game series with the Soviets, and once again, Scotiabank came through with postcards to send and encourage the Canadian players who were again in tough against a still mostly unknown foe. We have 191 of these 1974 “Go Canada” and "Vas-Y Canada" English and French text postcards, slightly smaller than the 1972 type measuring 3 ¾” x 5 ¾”, also unmarked and retained in excellent condition save for some natural aging and minor edge wear. This complete lot of 241 postcards has the makings of a great dealer lot as they retail between $5.00 to $10.00 each, and the whole lot should prove excellent value for the entrepreneurial dealer.
