Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Following on the heels of the historic 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series was the 1974 WHA Canada-Russia affair, with again four games held in Canada and four in Moscow, with the 1974 series opening in Quebec City as opposed to the ’72 series when the puck was dropped in Montreal. The other three Canadian cities, Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver remained the same. Offered are two Russian publications from the WHA-Russia Summit Series which saw Russia win four games, Canada winning game two in Toronto, and the teams playing to draws in games 1, 4, and 7. First we have a Russian 4-page program heralding the ’74 series and providing final scores from the 8 games of the ’72 series, and the 4 games in 1974 played in Canada. This publication was printed for fans in Russia, and so the scores in Moscow had yet to be determined. Inside this foldout are a list of various Russian international hockey wrap-ups, while on the back is the lineup for the Russian and Canadian squads. Also included is a Russian sports newspaper with a smiling Bobby Hull on the front from the ’74 series. (Hull was extremely popular in Russian when he played, and possibly the best-known and loved of all Canadian players from the ‘60s and ‘70s). This fold-out newsprint publication also features a Russian soccer section as well as the coverage of the ’74 Summit Series. Both publications are in excellent condition and are wonderful mementos from the historic second Summit.
