Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
From Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the NFL Buffalo Bills, transformed into an NHL rink to become the 2008 NHL Winter Classic, the first NHL regular-season outdoor game ever held in the U.S., with 71,217 chilly fans watching as Sidney Crosby won it for the Pens in a shootout on a snowy yet festive day. Offered is a Penguins game-worn jersey from that big day, donned by Pittsburgh's Ryan Whitney during the second period, with this Throwback jersey tagged in the collar as a size "58+". On the right breast is a sewn-on "Winter Classic 2008" patch, while on the inside hem is a "Penguins/Winter Classic" patch, along with a "MeiGray" patch with numbers that correspond with the accompanying LOA signed by representatives of the NHL and MeiGray. A nice gamer from an event that continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
