Rene Robert and the late Richard Martin made up the Buffalo Sabres’ potent French Connection line of the 1970s along with Hall of Fame center Gilbert Perreault. Offered are Robert’s and Martin’s Koho 221 game-used sticks.
Robert had a 100-point season and his second 40-goal effort in 1974-75 when the Sabres reached the Stanley Cup final in their fifth season of existence. Robert, who had 284 goals and 702 points in 744 regular season games overall, scored 28 goals and 63 points with the Colorado Rockies in 1979-80 before winding up his career with Toronto, where he actually made his debut in 1970-71 before spending a season in Pittsburgh. “Robert” is stamped on the shaft of Rene’s Koho Custom Pro 221 gamer which has his number “14” written in blue marker both high and low on the shaft. The bare blade is blackened and Rene’s original white tape knob remains intact on this solid gamer with a chip on the top edge of the blade.
Martin, who died in 2011 at the age of 59, had his second straight 52-goal season with the Sabres in 1974-75 and 49 more the following year. He finished off his career with a brief stint with Los Angeles and scoried all but two of his 384 career goals with Buffalo. “R. Martin” is stamped on the shaft of Rick’s Koko 221 Custom Pro gamer which retains his black tape job on the knob. Rick’s number “7” is handwritten in red marker both high and low on the shaft. The bare stick blade is blackened with a small chip on the top edge of the toe.
