Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

John Marks wore this awesome 1973-74 Chicago Black Hawks #11 gamer with a "73" season patch sewn inside the right rear tail during his sophomore season. Hammered beauty has interior pilling and a couple of dozen team repairs on the lower sleeves, including intricate sewing surgery on the right sleeve and a 15" vertical repair on the left front! The Wilson and Gunzo's tags are no longer in the collar and there is evidence of a former nameplate, most likely one that was on and off this gamer, sewn on for Hawks road games that were broadcast nationally by NBC in the States and removed for others. The ghostly thread-hole outlines of square patches of material that once covered up the tomahawks on the shoulders indicate that this game-worn jersey spent time in the minors with a Black Hawks affiliate team. Marks scored 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points in 76 games in 1973-74, his sophomore campaign in a 10-year NHL career, all with Chicago. The “73” patch sewn inside the right rear hem near the hip is a red felt square, that has torn open vertically along the right side, with white thread embroidering for the numbers.
